Afghanistan's former president has reappeared in the United Arab Emirates, the country's foreign ministry said in a statement Wednesday, reported by CNN.

"The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation can confirm that the UAE has welcomed President Ashraf Ghani and his family into the country on humanitarian grounds," the UAE's Foreign Ministry statement said.

Ghani had fled Afghanistan on Sunday as the Taliban closed in on the capital city of Kabul. His whereabouts had been unconfirmed.
